Text Of Review: Looking for some scary reading this ol` hollow`s eve? Looking for some frightening tales of mystery and imagination from local DC authors? Well then, check out Bill of Frights, the first, but not last, fourteen tales of horror from The League of Eclectic Authors, a DC-based group of genre authors who specialize in horror and fantasy fiction.
What weaves the fourteen tales of terror together is all of the stories are based in the Washington D.C. area and confines of Northern Virginia and Maryland where all of the League writers work and live.
The League was formed in 2011 when two Northern Virginia based authors, Clint Mesle and Clint Collins (yes, those are their real names) wanted to create a support group for local genre writers to meet and critique and discuss their work and to encourage new writers in all stages of creation. The first couple of meetings were held in the conference room of a local New Age store, which seemed to fit perfectly as many writers of the new group specialized in horror and fantasy fiction. Soon, word of mouth spread and membership grew to over thirty strong, with writers from all genres including sci-fi, fantasy, horror, thriller, historical and non-fiction. The group encourages all writers and include in their ranks such published writers as Walter Gavenda The Haunted Guide To West Virginia), Donald Jeffries (The Unreals), George Crawford (Paw), Randall Dunn (Rattlesnake Island) and Alma Katsu (The Taker Trilogy) among others. The group even boosts in its membership radio personality Bob Karnes (Cross Culture on WEBR) and tv personality Jane Doll as Spooky Demensia. |
